“My iPhone won’t charge” is one of the most common tickets a repair shop sees — and one of the easiest to misdiagnose. Swap the wrong part and you eat the cost. Here’s a clean diagnostic flow to find the real culprit fast.
Step 1: Rule out the cable and adapter
Before opening anything, test with a known-good Apple cable and wall adapter. A surprising share of “dead” phones are just frayed cables. If it charges now, you’re done — sell them a quality cable and move on.
Step 2: Check the charging port for debris
Lint packed into the Lightning/USB-C port is the number-two cause. Inspect with a light and gently clear it with a plastic pick. Retest before assuming a hardware fault.
Step 3: Battery health vs. port fault
If it still won’t charge, plug in and watch behavior. A phone that shows the charging icon but drains anyway, or dies at “20%,” usually needs a battery. A phone that shows nothing, charges intermittently, or only works at a certain cable angle usually needs a charging port/flex. Our charging port repair guide covers the flex-replacement call in detail, and 5 signs a battery needs replacing helps confirm a battery fault.
Step 4: Order the right part
Once you’ve isolated it, order by exact model. Browse batteries and charging flex on your model page — for example iPhone 14, iPhone 13, or iPhone 12 — or start from the full iPhone repair parts range.
